JOBS TO DO IN APRIL

IN THE FLOWER GARDEN

April is the time

most gardeners first

get out into the garden.

Jobs to do

Finish any digging that you may not have done due to the weather.

Put up your canes/hazel sticks ready for your runner beans

Plant out your chitted first early potatoes in well prepered ground.

or to get extra early potatoes plant some into 12" (30cm) pots

with good compost. and

place in the corner of your greenhouse. This will bring

them on earlier than the

ones planted outside.

What to sow outdoors

Carrrots, Cabbage

Sprouts, Cauliflower

Parsnip, Beetroot

Broccoli, Kale

Leeks, Lettuce

Onions, Peas

Spinach, Rocket

What to sow indoors

French Beans, Celery

Cucumber, Courgette

Marrow, Pumpkin

and Sweetcorn

Early crops of

Lettuce, Raddish,

Spinach and Rocket

can be sown in pots

Also Micro Veg can

be sown in sown

in small pots

Ready in 7 days

Prick out any seedlings that are large enough to handle into pots.

Check all your young plants for pest and diseases spray if needed.

Ventilate your greenhouse as needed on sunny days

Move large plants to cold frames

to harden off before planting.

Jobs to do

Fork over your flower beds being careful of any bulbs that are coming through the ground .

Spread a general fertilizer over your borders and hoe in.

Mulch round trees and shrubs

with bark or good garden

compost.

Plant out summer bulbs.

Sow hardy annuals outdoors.

Plant out any sweet peas that have already been hardened off in a cold frame.

Jobs to do in the Greenhouse

Take cuttings of Dahlias, Chrisanthemums, Pensetemons,

Geraniums, Fushias and any other tender perennials you may be growing.

Sow any flowers seeds

Sow perennials and place in cold frame.

Prick out any seedlings you have

that are large enought to handle into clean pots.
