On Sunday 2nd February Mgr Keith spent the day with us in Croydon
celebrating at our 12 noon Mass at Holy Family, Sanderstead and the
4.30 p.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Croydon. There was a buffet lunch between
the Masses and tea and cakes rounded off the day. It was a splendid
occasion for us all in the company of Mgr. Keith and Gill.”
Croydon Cheers!
Pilgrimage to Walsingham June 2014
The timetable has been announced for this year’s
annual pilgrimage to Walsingham led by the Ordinary,
Monsignor Keith Newton. It will take place on
Saturday, 28 June 2014, beginning at 11.40 a.m. with
the Rosary in the garden of the Anglican Shrine or
inside the Shrine Church (depending on the weather),
followed by Sprinkling at the shrine.
At 12.40 p.m. pilgrims will set off on the Silent
Procession of Reparation and Reconciliation to the
Catholic Shrine, where confessions will be heard. The
pilgrimage will end with Sung Mass in the Catholic
Chapel of Reconciliation, celebrated according to
the Ordinariate Use - which integrates centuries’ old
Anglican prayers into the Roman Rite.
Eastbourne goes to the New Forest
The February half term break saw 20 regulars from
Eastbourne Ordinariate Mission heading off in cars
and a minibus to the village of Lyndhurst in the heart of
the new Forest. Together we spent some very full days
with a balance of prayer and contemplation, fun and
laughter, walks, runs and rest and plenty of good food.
Tuesday morning was set aside for sessions on ‘The
Peace in the Mass’ and ‘Liturgy and Mission’ led by
Mgr Edwin Barnes. We also had time to hear from him
about the Bournemouth group and share something
of our own experience.
As a group we shared morning and evening prayer
and compline. We set aside time for mass and
adoration- one morning against the smell of breakfast
cooking and the sound children singing in the kitchen!
During the week we also managed, between various
members of the group to visit friends and family
nearby, journey to a wildlife park (where the adults
showed the children how to use the zipwire), walk for
The Eastbourne Group balance of prayer
and contemplation, fun and laughter
miles, fall in deep expanses of mud, spot wild ponies,
learn all about the New Forest at the Museum and play
lots of different games. It was a wonderful week, the
first we have tried like this and it was all memorable!

On 27th April 1968 the Abortion Act came into
force. Since then who knows how many unborn babies
have been killed?
The latest figures indicate that about 200,000
abortions a year are carried out in the UK. That is the
population of Sutton Coldfield where we are based.
So: Saturday 3rd May 2014, we shall celebrate the
Mass of SS Philip and James with the intention for
all those aborted in the past 46 years. Mass is at the
Convent of the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 99
Old Oscott Hill, B44 9SR, and begins at 10am.
