THE P RTAL September 2013 Page 3 EDITORIAL by Will Burton The Assumption and Saint Gregory, Warwick Street One of the joys of going to London is that one gets to travel on the train. I am a real anorak when it comes to trains. It was the Sunday after the Solemnity of Our Lady’s Assumption and I took the train to London, then the Underground to Piccadilly Circus. Warwick Street and the Church of the Assumption and Saint Gregory is but a short walk away. spell-bound The Ordinariate now has two places where our foot is on the earth in London, Warwick Street and the Precious Blood, south of the river in the Borough. To celebrate the Assumption we were treated to Solemn Choral Evensong and Benediction at Warwick Street. All was beautiful. Fr Allen Brent (see The Portal February 2012) preached an excellent homily which held all present spell-bound. fitting celebration Afterwards many repaired upstairs for some refreshment. We renewed old friendships and made some new ones. All in all, it was a splendid Sunday evening and a fitting celebration for the first Assumption-tide in our new “home”. Winsome and the Sisters, this is good news indeed. In due course The Portal hopes to have an in-depth interview with Mother Winsome, but for now we assure them of our prayers in their new home. Congratulations to Anastasia Ellis Anastasia is a member of the Derby/Nottingham Ordinariate Group and she gained 10 A* passes at GCSE. The situation in Syria All have read about troubled Syria, or seen her troubles on the TV, or listened to them on the Wireless. Wringing hands solves nothing, but neither does violence. The Portal joins all Catholics in praying for peace for Syria. To assist us in this regard there is a lovely prayer on the Blogosphere. We reproduce it here in the hope that all our readers will use it daily. It is from linenonthehedgerow.blogspot.co.uk : Prayer for peace in Syria God of Compassion, Hear the cries of the people of Syria. Bring healing to those suffering from the violence. Bring comfort to those mourning the dead. Strengthen Syria’s neighbours in their care and welcome for refugees, convert the hearts of those who have taken up arms and protect those committed to peace. God of Hope, Inspire leaders to choose peace over violence and to seek reconciliation with enemies. Inspire the Church around the world with compassion for the people of Syria, and give us hope for a future of peace built on justice for all. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace and Light of the World. Amen. Petition: For the people of Syria; that God may strengthen the resolve of leaders to end the fighting and choose a future of peace. We pray to the Lord… Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary The Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary now have a new home.
