News from the Ordinariate
LOGS go out and about
L OGS, the
Ladies Ordinariate Group, will be
busy this summer. The usual evening meetings
with a guest speaker give way to outdoor activities and
various trips.
In May, the group will be on pilgrimage to the shrine
of Our Lady of Consolation at West Grinstead in
Sussex, where Mass was celebrated secretly in recusant
times.
June always sees the group’s annual gathering
sponsored by its Croydon members, meeting at Virgo
Fidelis Church in Upper Norwood. Speaker will be Fr
James Clark, who will talk about his work as chaplain
to the John Fisher School.
July will see the group travelling by river from
Westminster to Richmond, where after a lunch break
at a local pub, they will go on to Strawberry Hill, where
the 18th century mansion and large modern University
are due to be visited: LOGS chairman Joanna Bogle is
currently working on the University’s history, due for
publication in 2020.
There is also a planned visit to Kenley Airfield -
famous for its role in the Battle of Britain and now
welcoming visitors to discover the story of those
heroic days.
And then, with the Autumn approaching, comes the
annual visit to Walsingham - and a review of activities
in 2018 and plans for the year ahead
Anglo Portuguese Ensemble concert
O n Friday
20th April 2017 a concert
entitled a Musical Partnership was held at
the church by the Anglo Portuguese Ensemble.
The Ensemble is a string formation made up of
young musicians from both Portugal and the
United Kingdom who have their resident base
at the church of Our Lady of the Assumption
and St Gregory.
The talented string orchestra performed a
number of works by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich
and Braga Santos and the musicians entertained
all those present to some beautiful music and
the music most certainly made the church feel
both a very sacred and special place.
Correction: Last month, in our article by Dr Simon Cotton, we stated that the so-called ‘Novichok’ (‘Newcomer’) agents - one of these is believed to have been
used in Salisbury - were developed by Russian researchers in the 1940s and 1950s. It should have been “in the 1970s and 1980s”. We apologise for the error.
