THE P RTAL June 2015 Page 17 News from the UK Groups Receptions at St Agatha’s, Portsmouth High Mass of Our Lady on Saturday, 16 May was a special occasion at St Agatha’s, Portsmouth, when Caroline, Janet and Martin (pictured right. interspersed with their sponsors) were received into the Catholic Church. The Music was Missa de Angelis. Janet, who born opposite the church and baptised in St Agatha’s in 1939, said after the Mass, that it was like coming home. Martin is from Southampton and has developed his links with St Agatha’s over the last couple of years. Caroline was brought up as an Episcopalian but has a Catholic mother who was present to see her daughter received into the Catholic Church. A happy event followed by an edible reception of strawberries, sandwiches, cake and prosecco! Ordinariate Festival 2015 D o you remember what you were doing on Saturday 20th September 2014? It is one of the days I shall never forget. Along with hundreds of others, I was in Westminster Cathedral Hall for the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham Festival. It was, by any standards, a splendid day. We were encouraged by the work and progress of some of our groups. This was timely, as there are many voices, both inside and outside the Ordinariate, who are quick to rubbish us and engage in defeatist talk. The Festival was a timely antidote to them. There was a wonderful mass in the Cathedral; our special guest, Cardinal Vincent Nichols; and a “charge” from the Ordinary, The Right Revd Keith Newton. Building on the success of this Festival, there will be a second one this year. On Friday 18th September 2015 at 7pm Fr Gerard Sheehan, Opus Dei, will speak to us at The Church of the Most Precious Blood, O’Meara Street, London Bridge SE1 1TA. This will be followed by a wonderful Reception. It is at Precious Blood because the Basement Room at Warwick Street is being refurbished. Saturday 19th September 2015 will find us, once again, at Westminster Cathedral Hall from 1030 to 1600. There will be a full programme of events in the morning, with mass in the Cathedral at 1230. We hope to be able to provide a sandwich lunch for those who book. In the afternoon we welcome our Guest Speaker, Archbishop Joseph Augustine Di Noia O.P. of the CDF. The day will conclude with the “charge” issued by the Ordinary. For those who are able to attend, mass is at 1030 at Warwick Street on Sunday 20th September 2015. Make sure this weekend is in your diary. Come for all or part of it. It helps if we know how many are attending.
