doctorate of divinity in 1895
which led him to a lectureship
in philosophy and the chair of
moral theology at Maynooth.
His reign over the Catholic
Church in the Archdiocese of
Melbourne also included the
time of the Great Depression,
the Second World War and the
Korean War. These were not
easy times for the Church and
