THE P RTAL January 2014 Page 3 Messages of Support for The Portal and Blessings His Eminence Gerhard L. Müller writes: The Superiors and Staff of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith are proud of the work of The Portal, especially as it goes international in January to include also the Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. Indeed, this publication is an important point of contact and communication among the Ordinariate parishes and communities, as well as an important tool for evangelisation. The clergy and faithful of the Ordinariate have an important story to share with Christians everywhere: the adventure of full Catholic communion. The Portal is doing just that! +Gerhard L. Müller Prefect, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith The Right Reverend Monsignor Harry Entwistle PA writes: I write from the Australian Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. To some extent, all three Ordinariates are a diaspora because their communities and parishes are scattered. Living with this reality presents us with a challenge, because in Australia, the distance between our major city parishes is measured in flying hours, and the distance between centres in the same State is measured in significant driving hours. Isolation can lead to a loss of connectedness with others and the consequent loneliness can lead to an unhealthy form of congregationalism. When it is difficult and costly to gather together in larger groups, communication through electronic media and the printed word plays an important role in maintaining our identity and shared patrimony, and encourages us in our mission and ministry. For these reasons, I welcome this new initiative of turning The Portal into a shared venture between the United Kingdom and Australia. The OLSC is the smallest of the Ordinariates in terms of the number of priests and laity; so having news, comment and spiritual guidance from others who share our journey will be a real blessing to us. I encourage readers of The Portal to encourage others to not only read the journal, but to contribute and subscribe to it. We in the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross thank the editors for their work in the past and pray God’s blessing on the new International Portal.
