THE P RTAL August 2012 Page 14 Ordinariate Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi 2012 saw The Portal’s first Pilgrimage ... a very successful Pilgrimage with Mgr Keith Newton to Rome ... and now, due to popular demand, plans are well in hand for 2013 for a Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi ... including being present at an Audience with the Holy Father and staying near St Peter’s Basilica in Rome and in the old hill town of Assisi. The dates are Monday 25th February to Monday 4th March 2013 flying from London Gatwick. This year we at The Portal held the second of our Newman Days at Littlemore. We assembled mid morning for coffee before Sister Bianca of the Spiritual Family of the Work gave us a most interesting and informative talk about the great man. The Spiritual Family of the Work care for the College, and live their Religious Life there. John Henry Newman lived here in what he called “The College” for our years while he prayed and pondered his future. Eventually Blessed Dominic Barberi received him in the Catholic Church in the Library at Littlemore. garden at Littlemore. In the afternoon, Sr Bianca took us on a tour of The College, including the Library where Newman asked to be received into the Church, his room (very spartan) and the wonderful Oratory. Then we walked the short distance to the Cof E parish Church which he built with the financial aid of his mother. Fr Paul Berrett came and celebrated Mass for us in beautiful Oratory at Littlemore, before we all enjoyed Then it was back to the College for Tea and more on magnificent lunch. As it was such a pleasant day, the food! It was a wonderful day. Do look out for the third talk and the lunch were able to be held in the lovely Newman Day in 2013.
