Sharks pummel Wolfpack with unanswered 70 points
By Jerry Norton
Ponte Vedra’s first conference
football game of the season was far
from being competitive. The Sharks
scored ten touchdowns on their way
to a 70-0 shellacking of Wolfson on
the road. The Sharks scored early,
late and often, racking up a school
record 10 touchdowns.
Nick Tronti’s pass to JD Pirris,
good for 30 yards, thirty seconds
into the game opened the flood
gates and the points kept coming until sophomore Duncan Van
Kouteren scooped up a Wolfson
fumble and ran into the Wolfpack
endzone with fifteen seconds left in
the game.
In between Ponte Vedra totally
dominated play despite playing its
starters for just the first half.
Van Kouteren’s fumble recovery
came on Wolfson’s eighth drop of
the game. Moments before, Andrew
O’Dare picked up the Wolfpack’s
seventh fumble and converted it
into the Sharks’ 64th point.
Ponte Vedra found a variety of
ways to score points—through the
air, on the ground, fumble recoveries, and even a safety.
Each of the Shark running backs,
Hal Swan, Quint Boyd, Christian
DePersio, and sophomore Zack
King scored. Shark receivers
Marshall Few, JD Pirris and Harry
Jorgenson each caught touchdown
strikes from Tronti. Tronti completed 10 of 13 passes for 228 yards in
one half of play and ran 4 yards for
a score.
Ryan Gleason, the Sharks’ premiere punt blocker added another
block to his impressive resume.
Ryan Morgan, Jake Yale, Ruan
Martins, Jacob Reeves, Kelly Johnson and Luke Constantino also had
fumble recoveries for the Sharks.
The Sharks scored in every quarter putting up 27 points in the first
quarter. They held a 41-0 lead at
half time then added 29 points in
the second half.
Ponte Vedra (4-0) will travel to
Pedro Menendez on Friday for
its next game, a non-conference
matchup, then will return home to
play Westside (1-3) in a conference
game.
