Fall Family Fun Night at Ocean Palms gives back to the Cultural Center
By Kelly H. McDermott
The Recorder
The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra
Beach expressed thanks this week to
Ocean Palms Elementary for their continued support of the Cultural Center’s
Music Therapy Program for children
with special needs.
Ocean Palms, which currently ben-
efits from the Music Therapy Progra,
started an initiative called, “Pocket
Change for a Change” which was put
into place by the Small Steps youth service group. During Ocean Palms Fall
Family Fun Night on Oct. 29, Small
Steps raised $275 to go towards Music
Therapy.
They presented a check to the Cultur-
al Center alongside Jessica Richardson,
Principal of Ocean Palms Elementary.
This program is now in four schools
throughout St. Johns County; Cunningham Creek Elementary, Ocean Palms
Elementary, Valley Ridge Academy and
PVPV-Rawlings Elementary.
“I have watched students who are
non-verbal come to life through learn-
ing to play the piano or a hand drum.
The Cultural Center has actively pursued the expansion of Music Therapy in
our schools because they too recognize
the positive impact this program can
have in the lives of the students in our
community,” said Jessica Richardson.

Ocean Palms
Elementary School
celebrates reading
with Literacy Parade
Ocean Palms Elementary School held their
annual Literacy Parade last week. Students and
teachers alike celebrated reading by dressing
as a favorite book character, carrying their
character’s book, and parading around campus for parents and other students to enjoy.
This was followed by classroom parties with
games and treats.
