SPORT // RUGBY

U15A XV

There has been a clear progression from the first game against Ashville right through to the last few games – including the victory against Ermysted in the third round of the Vase , meaning they have 15-a-side rugby to look forward in the Lent Term . A constant strive for improvement has been clear to see from the majority of the group ,
which has pulled the standard up slowly but surely . Some outstanding second-half performances have driven both the confidence and the standard of team play , with their 32-point comeback against Ampleforth really encapsulating their willingness to fight until the end and put in a performance they can been proud of . Despite some protestations throughout the season , I would encourage all boys who have represented the U15s this term , to look back at the snapshot taken from their first game this season and compare it to where they are now – I can certainly say that every single player who has stepped foot onto that pitch has improved in some way .

U15B XV

The U15Bs have worked hard this season on developing their core skills and fostering a real sense of team . Their commitment and attitude to Tuesday afternoon games sessions have been excellent , with players such as Caspar Chan developing solid skills having never played the game before , and Josh Buckley pushing his way into the A squad .

Most Improved Player : Jacob Annetts

U14A XV

After a difficult 18 months it has been great for the boys to get back to some regularity in both their training and fixtures . Players have made A team debuts and all who have played have contributed widely . As we put into place the stepping stones for the future , the desire to learn must be credited . It is not always easy keeping everyone happy , and defeats against Hymers and Yarm were hard to take ; however , the resilience that the boys showed must be commended . Strong performances followed against Ripon and Ampleforth , with the latter resulting in the biggest win of the season . Stand-out moments include the cross-field kicks , length of the pitch tries , and the huge tackles shown by many – moments that made any spectator smile .
The boys ’ approach to training has been brilliant , they have faced challenges regularly and the maturity they have shown as they have moved up what is effectively two age groups , has been superb . With a little more harmonious teamwork , this year ’ s group have lots of potential !
Players of the Season : Henry Clegg and Jamie Hoggarth
Most Improved Player : George Moorhouse
