ACHIEVEMENTS !

Zac Stewart was invited to a Residential Camp at St Catharine ’ s College , University of Cambridge after winning the Roentgenium Award .
University of Cambridge run a competition each year with an aim to stretch and challenge student ’ s interest in Chemistry . The questions take the students significantly beyond the syllabus .
Yuri Tsukumo and Anna Wraith obtained a copper award and Zac Stewart the top Roentgenium Award , placing him in the top 0.71 % of students who entered the competition .
To recognise his outstanding achievement , he was invited to attend a residential camp at St Catharine ’ s College , University of Cambridge back in August . It was an excellent opportunity for Zac to meet other successful students and hone his chemistry skills .

BIOLOGY

Highlights from the biology department :
This year , the Medical Society has been lucky enough to enjoy two talks by outside speakers . In November , we heard Michele de Luca M . D . from the University of Southern California lecture , on the use of stem cells for skin grafts , and the following month it was a fascinating presentation by Dr Stephen Brown , from the University of Sheffield , talking on the latest uses of gene therapy .
In December , Lower Sixth student Jenni Harrison took part in the MiSAC national competition , and we are proud to announce that she won the Commendation for the Science and Design Award for her presentation on the effect of climate change on fungi .
Finally , Science Week in March 2022 saw a special biology seminar given by Richard Clayton of the Francis Crick Institute , on future developments against disease .
