DONATIONS MADE IN MEMORY OF MALCOLM MILNE
At the beginning of July a dedication ceremony was held to mark the installation of a new cricket scoreboard and plaque in memory of former pupil , teacher and Pixies Cricket Club stalwart Malcolm Milne ( 55-62 ). During the ceremony , Headmaster Toby Seth
OP Committee member Simon Spence ( 74-81 ) and OP Vice President Charlie Lambert ( 01-08 ) meet virtually . referred to Malcolm ’ s love of cricket and his passion for helping to make Pocklington School more accessible to as many deserving students as possible , regardless of their background . Toby explained how Malcolm had played a key role in the planning of the school ’ s new Shape the Future Campaign and how members of the OP and school community would invited to donate to the Campaign in his memory .
OP Committee member Simon Spence ( 74-81 ) originally suggested the idea , which received the full support of the OP Committee and of Malcolm ’ s widow Jill .
Simon said : ‘’ Like anyone else who was taught by Mally Milne ( as he was universally known !), I was struck by the fact that his enthusiasm for cricket was , if anything , even greater than his enthusiasm for geography ! It is entirely fitting , therefore , that his contribution to life at Pock has already been marked by the splendid new scoreboard . He was also a great believer in broadening the reach of a ‘ Pock ’ education as widely as possible and I am delighted that donations in his memory will go to the Shape the Future Campaign , which he was so instrumental in helping set up . I hope many OPs , whose memories of him are as fond as mine , will want to donate to it .’’

The award presented to Pocklington School recognised its dynamic community engagement programme , which includes schools outreach activities , a student community action programme and its support of Chatta , an Early Years initiative focused on communication and language skills .
Toby Seth , Headmaster , said : “ Not only does this award fill us with a great sense of pride , it also very much reflects the type of school we are . We are embedded in and deeply committed to our community and our commitment to engaging with our community is central to Pocklington School . For this to be recognised is testimony to the hard work that pupils and staff put into honouring this long-held tradition at Pocklington . This accolade will also serve as motivation to continue this work well into the future .”
