SPORT // CROSS COUNTRY
in 52nd covered in a mixture of blood and mud in another demonstration of determined resilience .
There were a few hours to wait until the results were published as all the races had been close and with a place in the national final at stake for the top three teams the results had to be checked .
The Intermediate girls finished 9th overall but should be proud of their effort in the race and getting to the regional final in the first place . It was good news though for the junior team as they have qualified as runners up and will now race in the national final .
To put this in context they are one of the final 27 teams out of 530 schools who entered the cup this year . This is a fantastic achievement for this talented team of athletes .

BASKETBALL 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL

On Thursday 5th December we took a mixed Under 18 Basketball team to South Hunsley School .
The team mainly consisted of students from our boarding community . After a slow start , we became more organised and eventually won the game 38 to 31 .
Players of the Match : sisters Janice Wong ( 3rd year ) and Jobie Wong ( 4th year ) who bossed the game .
This activity is as popular as it always has been over my 32 years in charge ! Here ’ s my report ; I ’ m not sure whom I should copy in for school magazine purposes ?
Eight teams entered the Lower School 5-a-side league , which ran from September to January . Each team played every other team once , then the league was split into two halves for the final three rounds . At the split , the “ RUBBER DINGHY RAPPERS ”
had a 100 % record and held a 3-point lead over “ SWEAT SQUAD ”, with “ HULL CITY ” a further 2 points behind . A draw between the leaders and “ HULL CITY ” gave “ SWEAT SQUAD ” a glimmer of hope , but that was extinguished in the next round as they lost to “ HULL CITY ” and “ RUBBER DINGHY RAPPERS ” defeated “ 1 ” to wrap up the title ( excuse the pun !). “ SWEAT SQUAD ” finished second , pipping “ HULL CITY ” on goal difference .
As always , a huge “ thank you ” should go to Mr Andrews for refereeing each week , and thank you from me to all players who took part .
Congratulations to the winning team of Luke Nolan , Albie Lawrie , Charlie Turner , Max Innes , Barney Walker & Olly Foster .
