BOYS ’ HOCKEY

1st XI

P10 / W1 / D3 / L6
A frustrating season for the boys having given so much time and effort to the cause . There have been numerous occasions when the team have displayed passages of play that would match and dominate oppositions , unfortunately these have not been demonstrated for enough long periods of play .

2nd XI

A collaborative effort from all students . Understanding how important it is to keep the ball , playing it out from the back has a key development of the team ’ s style of play . As a young team they have come together and adapted to each other well . I look forward to seeing how they develop in the next few years .
Most Improved : A Clements Player of the Season : H Cook
Looking forward , what is exciting is that we shall maintain upwards of six students that have played most of the season , for next season and complementing these boys with students from the current L6th and fifth form leaves us with much to look forward to .
Captain , Marcus Chacksfield has had an excellent season , his determination and commitment has been faultless and the desire he has shown for the group and the game has been of the highest standard . To all the boys that will be leaving us , I would like to wish them all the best and thank them all for the commitment that they have given to the season .

Half colours : J Toulman , M Smith , D Clifton , W Watts .

U15 XI

P7 / W2 / D0 / L5
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with a group of boys this season who have consistently demonstrated an excellent attitude and have really developed their hockey both individually and as a team . Although not always reflected in results they have played with an admirable intensity all season and at their best have played free-flowing , fast hockey that has opened teams .
A highlight was a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Hymers that saw us score our first goal of the season .
The performance against Bradford Grammar also saw them playing at their best with a convincing 5-1 win , which saw a veritable deluge of goals scored in a frantic ten-minute period and excellent performances all round . And it was so close against St Peter ’ s too ; coming back from 2-0 to lead 3-2 at half-time , only to see two goals scored by the opposition in the last ten minutes .
The boys also deserve a massive well done for their performance in the annual Yorkshire schools hockey tournament getting to the semi-finals only to be foiled by an old foe in the shape of Ampleforth . Genuinely the whole team deserve a mention in dispatches but the ‘ most improved player ’ goes to Ollie Frisby whose defensive skills and awareness of the game have really come on . His willingness to be a goalkeeper and the rapid improvements he has made in this position are also really promising for the future . ‘ Player of the Season ’ must go to George Walster who has shown great composure as sweeper and impressed with consistently strong performances . Overall , this team is an exciting prospect for the future , and with a little work on refining things like concentration and basic stickskills , I am sure they will do well !
