RUGBY X ’ s / VII ’ s

U16 X / VII

An odd season and disappointing end to some of the groups time at Pocklington . The lent term rugby never really got going . We started strongly in our own 10s ’ s tournament losing to eventual winners Wolferton and drawing with Ampleforth and Mount St Mary ’ s .
We were then hit by storms Ciara and Dennis , this saw tournaments at RGS Newcastle , Durham & Woodhouse grove cancelled due to waterlogged pitches . A small friendly tournament at Pocklington in place of woodhouse grove saw us play some 7s vs Ripon Grammar , St Peters & Sedbergh . The Team , however , continued to train with senior squads and develop their skill sets with great enthusiasm . Some members of the group have played up an age representing the senior squad , a huge amount of credit goes to those boys .
Sadly , The Roslynn Park tournament was cancelled due to Covid-19 , a disappointing end to an odd term of rugby and some of this groups time at Pocklington . I wish all the boys the best for the future whether that is moving into the senior squads at school or moving on to pastures new and thank them for their efforts during their time with us at Pocklington .

U15 VII

A season to be proud of in which the boys showed good knowledge of sevens at times . When playing with freedom , the performance at their home sevens tournament against Mount St Mary ’ s was of the top order and showed the talent that they have .
At Barnard Castle they were unlucky against the hosts in which they played the best rugby I have seen from them in 2 years . Notable performances came from Fin Beharrell and Henry Hobson and as injuries mounted the 7 remaining boys played their hearts out against Bradford and Woodhouse Grove . Narrow defeats in these games did not show the belief and endeavour that they played with and left me feeling proud as we got back on the minibus .
Unfortunately , Covid-19 curtailed the season just as they boys were getting going and the tournament at Bradford was cancelled .
As next year approaches the boys need to take this new found confidence forward and the individual talent needs to transfer to the team . This leads to an exciting future for the boys and one I look forward to watching .

U14 VII

The progression from day 1 of the Lent term to where the U14 rugby team finished was clear to see ; in what proved to be their last tournament of the term their sevens play began to resemble something you would see on show at extravagant World Series venues such as Dubai , Hong Kong and London . Their ability to manipulate the ball and find the space across the entire pitch was something to behold and the confidence developed impressively through the team , despite the results in some of the games and tournaments not going their way . It was a shame to finish the season the way it did and not have a chance to experience the grandeur that is Rosslyn Park , but there are plenty of aspects to look forward to in the future .
