to local MP Greg Knight , expressing her concerns about the negative impact supermarkets are having on our environment . She has been researching plastic pollution avidly and is keen to help the school reduce its single use plastic waste too , using some of the advice she received in Mr Knight ’ s response .
She said : “ I wanted to actually use the information from my HPQ project to do something instead of just for a grade in a project . I ’ m involved with the eco committee because everyone should be doing what they can to help the environment ; we shouldn ’ t just leave it to a few famous people . If we all made one simple change , like not buying plastic bags or refusing plastic straws , we could make a huge change .” innovative pieces of design such as water bottles and exercise books fabricated from sustainable , recycled materials .
Miss Robertson said : “ Jenni and Kai both clearly have a passion for helping create a cleaner , healthier and more sustainable school environment ; it has been great to see students working together to make a difference . We hope to see more of our students coming along to our half termly meetings in the Art Department in future - all year groups welcome !”
Kai has also designed posters for display around the school , seeking to change our habits for the better . He has been in touch with companies who produce

We know that children learn and grow when they are given the opportunity to explore , create , collaborate and push the boundaries of their capabilities and at Pocklington , we aim to develop the character of each of our individual children through our co-curricular programme .
Music , Sport , Drama and CCF form the basis of our co-curricular programme and through embarking on these activities , as well as the huge range of activities which take place at lunchtime and after school , such as chess club , debating , computer coding and fantasy book club we aim to instil our core values of courage , truth and trust .
I want to encourage all of you to take on experiences which will allow you to test your resilience , problem solving and interpersonal skills which are so valuable in today ’ s society .
On a Wednesday afternoon , each pupil in the lower school is timetabled with an ‘ activity ’ slot . These activities on offer are those such as problem solving , cookery , dance and inventing and are designed to teach you soft skills which will ultimately prove invaluable as you navigate their way through their lives .
You will soon be finding out your houses- Our House system at Pocklington also plays a huge role in our co-curriculum calendar and these types of events create huge excitement amongst our pupils . You can expect to be involved in events such as House Sport , House Music and House Drama and what we really value about these events is that those of you who are a little quieter can take an active role and in turn develop in confidence by finding out what you are actually capable of .
Through the co-curriculum programme , we want to push your comfort zones to
try a range of new activities but also commit to the activities which you feel passionate about so that you to become skilled in your talents outside of the classroom . Whether that ’ s hockey , rugby , tennis or cricket , or drama , art , music , debating or poetry .
Please take us up on the amazing clubs and activities you will have the chance to experience at Pocklington and make every lunchtime , after school practice and school trip count and I promise that by immersing yourself in school life in this way , you will have a brilliant experience at Pock .
