RUGBY

As seasons go , this one was a tough one for this group of players . Facing some strong opposition , tied in with some injuries / absentees within the A team resulted in a different team playing every week . The boys did well to put in the performances that they did , with Barnard Castle away being their performance of the season , despite what the scoreboard says .
Their never-say-die attitude was a joy to watch , particularly during a 10-minute period against Hymers which saw them play some of the best rugby I ’ ve seen from anyone in that age group . If more detail went into the finer aspects of the game , they could have turned some of those scores around . Overall , they have been a pleasure to work with and I wish them all the best for the future .

A season of development for the under 13s . Working on individual skills such as catch and pass , low tackle and space identification has been the key aim for this year group . The first match of the season seems so long ago , away at Giggleswick in the warm autumn sunshine Pocklington played some good rugby to record a hardfought 25-15 win .

This team is still learning its rugby and , as the boys mature and toughen up , will improve considerably because they do enjoy playing the game . Not many teams will be 50 points down
Tough fixtures followed Vs GSAL & Hill House , the boys continued to show endeavour however were lacking the teamwork and cohesion of the other schools showed . The team put in an improved showing Vs a good Barnard castle side , stringing together several good pieces of phase play , Barney were however too sharp on the break and often scored quick counterattacking tries .
A strong second-half display vs Hymers showed some of the improvements this
and get upset when the whistle blows because they want to carry on and get that next try !
The highlight of the season was the second half against Yarm , where the boys scored 4 tries against the opposition ’ s 1 and brought together solid rucking , straight running and team has made , phase play was strung together with good passing and good running to help fight back against a very strong Hymers side and add respectability to the scoreline .
The season has been one of development of both individual skill and improvements as well as developing a deeper understanding of the impact of teamwork on the game . The whole squad both A & B have worked hard to improve their rugby over the year .
moved the ball through the hands well . Seeing Vincent smashing through to score twice was brilliant !
