CULTURAL VISIT SPARKS NEW FRIENDSHIPS

OCTOBER 2019
Students learning Spanish gained an insight into life at an Argentinian school when a group of 17 Argentinian students visited School as part of a cultural tour of the UK .
Seventeen students and their teachers took time out from a stay in York to spend the day with our Sixth Form Spanish students and 17 Middle School students , most of whom study Spanish , too . They sat in on lessons , had a tour of the campus and joined us for lunch and afternoon tea .
The visitors gave entertaining presentations about life in Argentina and their schools in Buenos Aires . They even brought some Argentinian food and drink , which everyone enjoyed sampling . Insta contacts were shared and teacher Wendy Wright was even invited to go and stay with Victoria , one of the Argentinian teachers , in Buenos Aires !
Mrs Wright said : “ They spoke amazing English and were genuinely so interested in life here at Pocklington , asking many questions .
“ Our students were such wonderful
ambassadors for our school ; they engaged brilliantly and there was a real sense of new friendship amongst us all by the end of the afternoon .”
She added : “ What a privilege it was to host these inspirational young people , if even for just a short time . We hope many meaningful contacts and links are established as a result .”

6TH FORM DEBATING

We said a huge well done to Henry Kay and Issy Walsh in February this year when they did a fantastic job at St Peters at the Modern Languages Debating Competition and really impressed with their attitude and language skills in a very challenging and high-pressured environment !
They debated on two topics which they had prepared , one against Huntington and the other against Hymers . Even though the results didn ’ t go their way , it was a hugely beneficial experience and it was lovely to see schools from all over the north of England taking part .
To debate in English is a challenge in itself but to debate in a second language , think on your feet and come up with counter arguments on the spot is super impressive and they did Pocklington School proud .
