SPORT// CRICKET / TENNIS Day 3 saw us play local rivals Hymers. Batting first Pocklington failed to garner any momentum losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually dismissed for 66. Pocklington took 5 Hymers wickets but had insufficient runs to defend, losing to the festival winners by 5 wickets. Overall an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, the boys failed to deliver the quality of cricket they would have liked but the introduction of several younger players shows the potential in and around the squad for future years. Mr H Perham TENNIS ISTA Eton Tennis Tournament 2019 What a privilege is has been to experience this huge tournament at Eton College. Bella Byass and I have been lucky enough to play twice representing Pocklington School, but this year it was a fabulous new experience for the six other U15 girls who travelled down to play. In the sizzling first day 21 degree heat, the 1st Senior Pocklington pair started bright and breezy at 9am, leaving the rest of the team to wake up and cheer us on. Soon enough all 4 pairs were playing here, there and everywhere over the 40 playing courts ranging from clay to astro to acrylic, with every court being played on. All the girls trained so hard prior to this tournament, which definitely paid off, 80 THE POCKLINGTONIAN showing off some great winning shots and keeping in control of great rallies against tough competition. As tennis captain I felt so proud of them all for their commitment and dedication to Pocklington School Tennis. Jess Dyson and Jess McDowell played exceedingly well to get through to day two ‘Knockout Stage’. Unfortunately the draw was a challenging draw for the first match, both girls should be extremely pleased with their performance over both days. Taggy Medforth and Izzy Prescott had some great games winning two of three games on the first morning, as well as both girls bringing great energy and fun to the team. Amy Jordan and Isabelle Scanlon also stepped up to the action playing incredible tennis and serving a fair few aces! towards the end of the second day. The standard of tennis throughout all years was incredibly high, and also very inspiring to watch some of the best tennis schools playing in the finals Millie Goode For any aspiring tennis players at Pocklington School, work hard over the tennis season to hope to be selected for next years trip!
