U13A XV
A memorable season for a highly
competitive squad. The breadth
and depth of the squad should be
commended and will see the boys well
in the future as team sizes grow. This
Depth has led to a range of highly
competitive and close fixtures.
One of the biggest tests of the season
was Woodhouse Grove. Always strong
and well drilled Woodhouse proved too
strong for Pocklington, but it did serve
as an opportunity for us to measure
ourselves against one of the best rugby
school in the county. At Barnard castle,
we played one of our most convincing
performances. The ball never stopped
as both sides played their part in a
thrilling fixture, pock moving the ball
in a manor they had not managed up
till this point, offloading and moving
the ball away from contact prevent the
opposition from getting a foot in the
door. As well as the flowing attack, rock
solid defence played a part. Pocklington
to a man put their bodies on the line to
stop Barnard castle scoring.
Then the most complete game of the
season. A remembrance weekend clash
with neighbours Hymers. Pock relentless
throughout. When in possession they
didn’t look like surrendering ball. When

Positive results have been hard to come
by this season, but this hard-working,
enthusiastic and spirited group of
players have trained hard, picked
themselves up and tackled the adversity
they have encountered with the kind of
attitude for which they can be proud.
The highlight of the year regarding
performance was probably against one
of the best Hymer’s sides we have ever
seen at this age group, and the boys
dogged determination and desire to stay
in the game was commendable.

in defence they looked hungry to get
the ball back. Hymers didn’t touch the
ball for the first 6 minutes, for the first
time this year they put together a full
performance for the full game. A day
that will live long in the memory.
Yarm, Prince Henry’s Otley and

all the games were settled by less than a
score rounded off the season.
All the boys deserve a huge amount of
credit for the way they have conducted
themselves for the duration of the
season. The whole squad has been a
pleasure to work with and I hope the
lessons learned will be carried through
there rugby journeys together.
Ben Marson has grown in the scrum
half role, Tom Councell has pulled
the strings from 10. Outside him Fred
Parsonage and Joe Clarke have formed
a fruitful centre partnership.
Beck Woodall has proved elusive and
tenacious on the wing. Will Blackburn
has made massive improvements and
now reads the game better and uses his
size and speed effectively. Dan Symes
has been a rock at the back. Ben Wright
Max Wilson and Aleck Brown have
formed a Robust Front row, Paired with
the skill of Will Day and Toby Winter

The circuit this year has been incredibly
strong, and it will be interesting to see
how this group of Yorkshire players
progress as they get older. As far as this
happy and easy-going Pocklington team
is concerned, every session is Christmas
Eve and with this positive attitude, they
will only improve.

U13B XV
This year’s 13Bs have been an absolute
pleasure to work with; every single
player has given his all to fixtures and
the sense of camaraderie within the
squad has been outstanding. Unbeaten
until the last game, where they played
very well but the result was really out
of their hands, they were a credit to
themselves.
The forwards rucked impressively,
led by Joe Maycock, and the backs
improved massively over the season,
marshalled by Tom Hoskin and James
Burton. Ethan Pym’s speed on the wing
was unstoppable and even towards the
end of the season, talent was coming to
the fore, for example Harry Scanlon,
who had a cracking game v. St. Olave’s.
Every single boy impressed... a great
season!

To do extraordinary things you will
have to put in extraordinary effort…
It has been an honour to coach the
U12B Rugby squad. It was by no
means a perfect season, but there were
some notable victories against tough
opposition. On those days it all fell into
place and our grit and attacking flair
was able to shine for all to see.
The nature of recent defeats
demonstrates that we have a core of
