WELCOME// EDITORIAL EDITORIAL It has been a fabulous experience editing school magazine with Mr Heaven and Murky. This provided a great opportunity to develop my writing techniques and I also enjoyed the moments of finding errors and correct them. I would like to thank Mr Heaven for doing tons of heavy work of editing school magazine and also my co-editor for contributing a lot of effort. Hopes next year all goes well. Many thanks to Mr Heaven for being instructive and patient to two international co-editors, which must be a great challenge. It was enjoyable to work in the library for the school magazine on a Thursday afternoon. Organising questionnaires is fun and I think my English skills have improved significantly after this investigation. Hope new editors will enjoy this process as well! Nick Wang Murky Liu We hope you enjoy the latest edition of The Pocklingtonian . It has been a pleasure to work with two superb international students to collate and edit this and our thanks go, as always, to all those who have contributed. Alan Heaven I arrived in first year I was overwhelmed by the endless opportunities that the school offered. During my time I’ve played in many sports teams and have loved every minute of it. My sporting highlights include finally mastering a forward roll at the age of 16 and scoring three own goals in the last hockey season. Pocklington has always provided fantastic school trips, but in my opinion the South Africa sports tour will always be the best. The excitement of being on tour with your best mates coupled with the diverse activities led to an incredible three weeks – topped off my an unbelievable three days on safari. I would encourage everybody to go on this trip, as it gave me my best memories at the school. Heads of School: Emma Farnsworth and Henry Foster HEAD GIRL The past seven years at Pocklington School have completely flown by, and my two years in the VIth form have been the best of all! Though I will be sad to leave, I know I will look back with countless fond memories of my time here. There are so many aspects of Pocklington that I’ve appreciated being a part of, but in particular, being involved in sports has always been my favourite. Before I came here I had never been a part of any sports teams, so when 2 THE POCKLINGTONIAN There have been plenty of events this year where the team of prefects have been behind the scenes, dedicating their time to benefit the school and the pupils. I’d like to say a massive thank you to the team of prefects, and to Mr Bond who’ve all contributed to make this year a success. I wish Hebe, Mickey and all the prefects the best of luck for next year. Speaking as someone who has just finished school, if I could give any advice to a younger pupil, it would be to throw yourself into every opportunity with an open mind. And if you’re ever struggling, don’t be afraid to ask for help – there is an abundance of support out there. My time at Pocklington has been an absolute blast and I hope that everyone else gets to enjoy it just as much as I have. I wish all the pupils good luck next year; continue to work hard and make the most of your school life! Emma Farnsworth
