and we are eternally grateful for their work. Without them we would not have clean, fresh, washed clothes for us every day. We would have the amazing food which keeps us running during the school year and without Mr Dare and Mr Loten we would not have such a good boarding house. They work extremely hard between boarding and day school and as a student you can really tell that they love this place because they put some much effort and dedication into making our lives better and making our lives at Pocklington enjoyable”. As well as our full time boarders, our part time boarders have plenty of positive things to say about the house: “These results weren’t the same as they were 6 months ago so I feel like all the extra stuff in the boarding house and all the extra help from the teachers has really got me to where I want to be. I was only able to get these results because of Mr Dare and I‘ve exceeded my expectations by a country mile so I’m more than happy! ” – Max Lee. 34 THE POCKLINGTONIAN “Boarding really helped me with my GCSEs… there’s lots of support and it helped me stay on track with my revision because if I was at home there would be a lot of distractions. The support from Mr Loten with Maths and Mr Dare with Spanish really helped and I did better than I thought I would. I’m really pleased that I am able to stay on at Pocklington.” – Henry Johnson Comments from Mr Loten and Mrs Burnside sum up the pride we take in supporting the boys: “It continues to be a pleasure to be part of an excellent team at Fenwick-Smith House, helping the boys with their personal development and with Maths at all levels. The atmosphere & academic support is really positive, as reflected by the number of day students who have joined the house to help with their organisation and learning”. – TM Loten “I have been employed as a Day Matron at Fenwick-Smith House for just over 20 months and feel very much part of a team who all work towards making sure that the Boarders needs are met. My first impression when I arrived was what a happy house it was and what a good relationship staff had with the boys. We have happy boys who are enjoying life as boarders at Pocklington School. We are a very full and busy house which has a lovely buzz and vibe about. The housekeeping team, housemaster, resident house tutor, academic teaching staff, medical team and myself have a good working relationship with good communication and I feel we work well to support each other and this in turns helps the boys academically and holistically”. – K Burnside To sum up, Fenwick-Smith is a really positive environment in which to work and for the boys to live and learn and support each other.
