CREATIVITY ON DISPLAY AT OUR SUMMER
OPEN DAY
At the end of the summer term we were delighted to
welcome special guests to our first ‘open day’ in the Art and
Design Technology Centre. Over 30 Campaign Donors and
Governors joined us at the event, where they enjoyed seeing
our classes in action and a special display of work produced by
this year’s A level and GCSE entrants.
Since the Centre was officially opened in May 2018, students
and staff have made full use of the new facility, creating
and displaying a huge variety of artwork, photography and
DT projects. Guests remarked on the outstanding quality,
imagination and skill demonstrated by our students and
the high standard of creativity which shone through in the
exhibition.
Headmaster Toby Seth, commented: “The tremendous support
offered by members of the Pocklington School community has assisted
in the creation of an Art and Design Centre that helps motivate and
engage our pupils in two key subject areas. Whenever I walk into the
building I see teachers and pupils working in concert to great effect; the
whole building has a buzz about it that is infectious and energising.”
where they spoke of playing rugby at the top level and the
challenges, opportunities and successes they have encountered
along the way.
David Byas, Director of Sport, said: “Rory, Steve and Rob gave
us inspiring insights into the world of rugby and what it is like to play
for and lead teams at the very top level of international sport. Their
thoughts fitted in so well with how we approach sport at Pocklington
School and mirrored so many of our values. They were an inspiration
to listen to.”
The Pocklingtonian Sports Dinner is a biennial event and
celebrates the long history of sport at the School. The inaugural
event was in 2016 and featured guest speaker former Yorkshire
and England cricket captain Michael Vaughan OBE.
EASTER COURSES FOR MUSICIANS AND
CRICKETERS PROVE A HIT
The School was a hive of activity over the Easter break as
we welcomed musicians from the City of Sheffield Youth
Orchestra (CSYO) and young cricketers training with the Byas
Academy to our campus.
The CSYO has been holding its annual spring residential
course at the School since 2006 and makes full use of our
facilities, including the Tom Stoppard Theatre, the Music
School and the boarding houses.
RUGBY LEGENDS TAKE CENTRE STAGE AT THE

with three special guests from the world of international
rugby - Rory Underwood MBE, Steve McNamara and
