SHOOTING BOYS’ HOCKEY 1st XI P10 / W4 / D2 / L4 The first team have enjoyed a mixed season which has featured some fantastic displays as well as some disappointing defeats. The season started with a promising 1-1 draw against a very strong Ashville side. With player of the season Rob Haigh pulling off numerous incredible saves. Following this the team suffered a disappointing defeat to Ampleforth losing 4-3 after coming back from 4-0 down at half time with goals from Ed Dare and Anson Mao nearly pulling us back level. After this minor setback U13/14 Academy Assessment The Under 13 and Under 14 Boys Hockey team, representing Pocklington School at the Junior Academy Centre Assessment and Selection Day, held at Hull University Sports Ground. Joe Clark (First Year), George Walster (Second Year) and Devlin Hunt (Third Year) were successful in being selected the team recovered with a stylish 4-1 win against Hymers. Unfortunately the team then suffered a disappointing tournament at Leeds failing to get out of a very tough group involving Ashville, QEGS, Giggleswick and Thirsk. But the team bounced back from these losses with the solid defence of Dan Isenstein, Harry Heywood and Will McMullen in front of the unbeatable Rob Haigh in goal. A fantastic 7-1 win against St. Peters being the performance of the season was followed with another strong 2-1 win against Scarborough College. The season was then capped off with an entertaining 4-3 win against the for the Humberside Junior Academy Centre Squad. staff team. There has been many standout performers this season with James Harrison and Anson Mao being very strong in midfield with Ed Dare and Hamish Broadbent being prolific in front of goal. Overall it has been a largely successful season but with the weather unfortunately affecting numerous games. I would like to thank Mr Byas and Mr Horne for their great coaching and managing this season along with the whole team who have been a pleasure to play alongside. Hamish Broadbent progression as they move to the next stage of the selection process.” The students will now undergo further training and competitions at the Academy, before a final team from each age group will be selected to represent Humberside at the Performance Centre in Leeds.
