BOARDING ORCHARD HOUSE This year, as always, Orchard House has been a hive of busy and entertaining activity. Baking remains a popular pastime, with a great range of treats and the odd experiment (lemonade scones, anyone?) with usually delicious results. We balance it out with plenty of getting active, such as our walk to Kilnwick Percy with stunning views over Pocklington, and biking through Dalby forest. Orchard House has also enjoyed trampolining, go-karting, and ice-skating! A highlight of the year is often our 32 THE POCKLINGTONIAN ‘inflatables’ afternoon, which was enjoyed this year by the whole boarding community. We held some fabulous (highly competitive!) races through the obstacle course, and finished off the afternoon with mouth-watering rustic pizza. We’ve kept our brains in gear with the challenge of York’s escape room, decoding the maze at Stockeld Park’s Christmas Adventure, and breaking out our house collection of puzzles. Of course, it’s important to take a break from it all through the odd ‘spa’ afternoon and relaxation, particularly important amid such a busy life both in and out of school. Some quotations from our Orchard House boarders: “The opportunities boarding offers us are unique and a great experience. It’s made me love boarding even more.” “Boarding gives you lots of opportunities to meet new friends and try new activities.” I like boarding because I have made many friends here in my time and I like the activities we do because they are really fun and include everybody (even other boarding houses). “I love boarding because it gets you close to people you don’t always hang out with in school.”
