Has the band been able to play in big shows or festivals? If so
what was it like looking out across the crowd?
We were honored to play the first annual Housecore Horror Film
Festival last October and then to join Down and Warbeast a few weeks
ago for the first annual Mike Scaccia Rock the Heart fundraiser. When
I look out at a thousand heads or so it’s pretty awesome. More than
that is how cool it is to get a positive response. People chant and
raise their fists when prompted, scream when asked… audience
participation makes the show more enjoyable for me and, I think, for
those attending. A show is what they paid for. Not to watch us stand
in one place and rehearse with really neat lights flashing!
What is the one song that fans seem to love the most from Dead
Earth Politics?
That’s a toss-up between “Dos Cuerpos” and “Redneck Dragonslayer”.
“Dos Cuerpos” is a meat and potatoes; visceral. Heavy low-end
chunking, let’s mosh type of tune. “Redneck Dragonslayer” is about
dragons. And the rednecks that slay them.
Have you reached out to any labels? Is it as important to be
signed to a label these days or would being unsigned, sucessful and
making money be okay?
We have definitely reached out to labels but we don’t equate success
to being part of a label family. Success is doing what we love with
the ability to sustain ourselves and our families. Is it important?
Eh, not sure yet. You can do EVERYTHING a label offers on your own but
there are still industries that REQUIRE label contacts. Touring
agencies generally will only deal with label relations, distribution.
Things like that. I definitely think the role of a label has changed
but they are not yet obsolete. We will continue to talk to labels as
long as we have something to offer them because I may be blown away by
an offer that covers things I never thought of.
