BATTLE OF THE BEST !

The Pacific Rim Championships are a sneak preview of the Olympic showdown ! Over the past 20 years , Pacific Rim countries have won the team competition at the Olympics a staggering 10 out of 12 times ( men ’ s & women ’ s combined ).

JUNIORS & SENIORS COMPETING TOGETHER !

The Pacific Rim Championships encourages each country to include both Seniors & Juniors ( gymnasts who are not age eligible for the Olympics ) on the team . This means that in non-Olympic years , the Juniors get an early chance to see how they stack up against the best in the world . During Olympic years , countries tend to put fewer Juniors on the team , as they want to test out possible Olympic teams .

FUN FACT !

In 2010 , John Orozco competed as a Junior and had the highest All-Around score of the entire competition !

COMPETITION FORMAT

Each country can bring a team of six gymnasts . Five of those gymnasts compete on each event , with the top four scores making up the team total . Unlike most 6-5-4 format competitions , the sixth gymnast can compete for a score on that event , in hopes of qualifying to individual All Around or Event Finals , but that sixth gymnasts score cannot be used to make up that team ’ s score . While combining for the team score , Juniors & Seniors compete separately for All-Around & individual event titles .
