Interviewer: How do you propose the truth be sought out then?

Chomsky: β€œI think it only makes sense to seek out and identify structures of authority, hierarchy, and domination in every aspect of life, and to challenge them; unless a justification for them can be given, they are illegitimate, and should be dismantled, to increase the scope of human freedom.” Challenging such structures enough will render them powerless because they only exist as long as people follow them. It is important for people to understand their own intelligence and use it to seek out new knowledge, information and truth. The key is to question and challenge everything until a proper reasoning can be given or identified. β€œIt is the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and expose lies.” These particular systems currently in place only serve to stifle the intelligent.
