We Against the World
A poem by Alesha Elbert
Trying to find a reason to stay
Praying for your warm embrace
As the days go by I wonder are we making a mistake
An undying love that was born to be erased.
The air, depleting from the system called life
The only one to save me, drowning from strife
Suffocated by the enemy, begging for light
But I begin to fade away, for you’ve been taken over by the hype
What is love when no one can share it together?
Divided by the confounds restricting our existence
When will we conquer the barriers wasting away into ash?
Questions that brings the answers of what will last.
Faith, it carries the weight of our hearts
I fight them all for us to never be apart.
I’ll scream to the heavens, begging for another chance!
Release him, you demons, for I only lie in his hands.
Don’t let me drown in sorrows.
Smother me with your imperfections.
‘Cause that’s what’s keeping me here…
Your sweet love injections.
Make me believe I fought for a purpose.
We are not worthless.
