Mama’s Kitchen
Today mama’s
kitchen is a kitchen.
She made her broccoli
and cheese casserole for me.
Auntie put the sweet potato pies in the oven when she got there.
Yesterday was
just a bit different.
Yesterday mama had a
hair salon, not a kitchen.
She did bantu knots for me, then she did Kmarre’s braids for him.
Last week it was
different yet again.
Last week, Justin had
another asthma attack.
Albuterol and lung collapsing coughs made mama a pediatrician.
But today, I’m
making the cobbler.
There is kool-aid on the
counter . (We let Kmarre stir)
Justin’s cleaning the collards, but grandma still watches him do it.
