State back to them each of their specific issues , to ensure that you have understood them correctly , and to allow the other person to know that you have being paying attention what they have been saying . Work calmly and rationally towards finding a solution to each of their concerns . Ask them what they would like to achieve , or how they would like to see the specific issues resolved .
In some cases , you might find that this mediation approach will not work . You might find that the other person is besoming increasingly angry , and starting to display body language that suggests imminent physical aggression .
If this is the case , then you would be well within your rights to defend yourself , but only to the point that you are able to remove yourself from physical danger . It is advisable to get some form of self defence training in order to make sure that you are capable of defending yourself , and to become accustomed to facing situations where you might have the same rush of physiological responses .
It will also give you the understanding of what constitutes defending yourself , and what would be considered reasonable force without crossing the line .
