Halloween
In the world of Saints and Sinners
"Clothes make a statement. Costumes tell a story"
~Mason Cooley
Few things define a gentleman more than the
traditions he follows, convictions he uphold and
the lessons he teaches his offspring. These basic
belief systems, which are passed to us from our
ancient ancestors to our modern day relatives,
will play a big part in the way we behave and the
way we perceive the world around us. It not
surprising then that for thousands of years
humans have tried to establish a special
connection between the generations, between
the living and the dead, between the ordinary
and the supernatural, and just as the autumn
shedding of leaves symbolises the circle of
nature, the death and rebirth, so is one day in
particular has been dedicated to the symbolism
of mystical beliefs in the realm that connects
the dead and the living. And who better suited
to signify the
reincarnation of an old tradition than millions
of pint size future gentlemen and gentle-ladies
who are about to embark on a sugar fueled,
horror inspired extravaganza- the Eve of All
Hallows’, better known as Halloween.
In this world of contradictions, I was most
honoured and surprised, being Jewish and
having little to do with primeval pagan
practices, to be asked by the number one
perfect gentleman himself to write a few words
about this cross dimensional festival, its history
and traditions around the world. And while
holding a firm belief that I, myself, was a pagan
warrior princes in my previous life, mainly due
to my profound love for Vikings, raw meat,
Whiskey and swords...and not necessarily in that
order, I have gladly accepted the challenge!
