A Farewell to One of the Best ...

On September 18th , Arlington Animal Services said goodbye to longtime Shelter Manager , Chris Huff . Chris had a passion for her work that was contagious and felt by everyone around her ! Chris is an iconic leader in the City of Arlington with the multitude of initiatives and programs she developed and led to improve animal welfare , educate youth , and serve the community . Thousands of Arlington pets have received free and low-cost vaccinations , spay / neuter , heartworm treatments and microchips thanks to community partnerships which extended on a national level . Her energy , smile and laughter will be deeply missed at the shelter by all who know her ! We wanted to ask Chris a few questions about memorable times she had at Arlington Animal Services , and here ' s what she had to say :
Is there a memory that sticks out to you the most from your time at AAS ? There was a time a rescue group located in Durango , CO found a microchipped Arlington cat on a feral cat colony in Colorado . I drove to the airport with the cat owner and we met the rescue partners at Love Field Airport to accept the cat . It was so incredible ! This cat was found 845 miles from home ! The cat owner was super excited and the rescue was so happy to fly the cat here to be reunited with its owner . It was like everyone putting a puzzle together for an amazing finish . Do you have an all time favorite memory ? I went to Dunn Elementary for pet therapy education and there was a young child unable to count . We allowed him to pet rescue therapy dogs , " Leroy Brown and Deacon ", and he started counting . The teachers eyes filled with tears and the room became silent , yet emotional all at the same time . What will you miss most ? The people , staff and volunteers , along with the roller coaster of emotions from day to day . I have always said it and I can still say it today , " No two days are ever the same at Arlington Animal Services ." What do you want people to remember ? I was not very good at it myself , but take care of YOU first which allows you to care for the animals . What do you want people to know about Arlington Animal Services ? The staff work extremely hard and until you have actually walked in their shoes , there is no way you could ever understand the every day journey they face . What ' s next ?! Family and more self growth . I am looking forward to retirement with long awaited , unlimited time with my husband and grand-babies !
