Rescue Spotlight A special senior pet who gets a new chance at life thanks to her foster !

HAPPY TAILS
November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month . This month we wanted to feature a special senior pet , who thanks to one of our amazing rescue partners , is getting a new leash on life !
Baby came into the shelter in rough shape . She was found by an animal control officer wandering the streets all alone . After she came into our care , she was so tired and exhausted . She barely wanted to stand , let alone walk and would just stay curled up in her blanket in her kennel . Given her frail looking condition , our shelter veterinarian examined her to see what we could do to make her as comfortable as possible . Baby had severe dental disease , her eyes were cloudy leaving her visually impaired , and what was even more heartbreaking , her nails on all 4 paws were so overgrown they had started growing into her paw pads . Her x-rays showed severe arthritis which explained her trouble getting around . The doctor recommended she be transferred to a rescue partner for retirement / hospice care where she could have good pain control and as great of a quality of life as possible .
Team members had fallen in love with this sweet old girl . Baby had clearly had a rough life and deserved so much better . We started working to get her out of the shelter as quickly as possible . We posted Baby ' s story in our VIP Pets Facebook Group and that is when one of our Rescue Partners , Rescue Row Inc ., stepped in to help . Rescue Row places dogs in loving , responsible , committed permanent homes following a comprehensive adoption process . They rescue-rehab-educate-outreach the public , helping rescue as many without a voice as the can with the help of dedicated volunteers and foster homes . While they normally do not take hospice dogs , there was something special about Baby that caught their foster ' s eye and she knew she had to help her . Now for the happiest part of Baby ' s story …. Her first day leaving the shelter , she spent the afternoon at the lake enjoying snuggles and sunshine and even got to enjoy a yummy hamburger ! Her foster describes her as SO appreciative and special ; the most incredibly sweet dog who they adored right from the start . A few days later , Baby went to see the rescue ' s veterinarian and got the best news ! Her bloodwork was PERFECT . They also started a medicated ointment for her eyes that is helping her vision improve . Her foster said she is an absolute angel when she has to have it put on too . She wags her tail as soon as her people start moving towards her , she is smart and picked up on her foster families routines extremely quickly . She recently had a dental and has been absolutely thriving in the home with her foster siblings ! Because Baby is doing so well , she is going to be placed up for adoption soon and have a family to call her own ! Her foster family is having her DNA tested to see what breed of dog she is , other than adorable of course .
Baby is getting her second chance at life because of a foster . Someone who was willing to take in a senior dog , love her and give her the best days possible .
