FERAL CAT SUNDAY
Did you know ? Feral Cat FAQ ’ S
What is a feral cat ? A feral cat is an unsocialized outdoor cat who has either never had any physical contact with humans , or human contact has diminished over enough time so they are no longer accustomed to it . Most feral cats are fearful or people and are not likely to ever become a lap cat or enjoy living indoors . What is the difference between a stray cat and a feral cat ? A stray cat is a pet who has been lost or abandoned , is used to contact with people and is tame enough to be adopted . A feral cat is the offspring of stray or other feral cats and is not accustomed to human contact . Feral cats are usually too fearful to be handled or adopted . What does TNR mean ? “ TNR ” stands for trap-neuter-return , and refers to programs where animal advocates , either individuals or organizations , humanely trap free-roaming cats , have them altered , vaccinated , and ear-tipped , and return them to their habitats .
Arlington Animal Services is excited to host a monthly Feral Cat Clinic for Arlington residents and community cats who call our city their home . This is a high demand event with only 20 available spots each clinic . While reservations are not required , open spots are on a first come , first serve basis . We strongly encourage all participants to arrive early to secure a spot . As a reminder , this is a feral and community cat spay / neuter event . All cats must be brought in a humane live trap . No kennels or other types of pet carriers are allowed . There is a maximum total of 4 cats per household allowed at each event and please note , kittens must be at least 3 months old .
If Arlington residents are needing to rent a trap for TNR assistance , please stop by the shelter or email tnr @ arlingtontx . gov .
