I allow the words to dance upon my mind’s stage. I sit in the audience wide with attention and watch them for a while. When the show is over, I close Whitman's notebook. I do not mark the page the way I do with my novels from The Beach School. I will never read his pages in order. I will never read his words like a book. They are not a story.
