I’m super excited to be rewriting the very first YA novel I ever wrote, back when I was in college. Somehow, the book got me an agent, though thankfully it was never picked up by publishers. As I re-read it now, I cringe at how amateurish it feels. What’s nice about doing this thing -- writing -- for years and years is that if you work at the craft, you can get much better at it. So when I say rewriting, I mean I opened a new document and started from zero. I feel really fortunate to be able to tackle this story -- about a girl who falls in love with her imaginary friend! -- with the writing chops that I’ve developed in the intervening 15 years before I put it out into the world for others to enjoy.
