ove him or hate him but he has emerged as one of the best musicians this country has produced. Zimbabwe’s internationally acclaimed musician, Oliver Mtukudzi said he will not rest his guitar anytime soon, rubbishing all the rumours that he is about to retire. An accomplished musician, Tuku as his fans lovingly call him, said he still has a lot to do in the music industry and said he will continue with live shows until ‘cities lie waste’. Debuting as a solo guitarist, Tuku worked his way up the trenches of local music before finally emerging as a mega star on the back of a succession of stand-out albums that won him acclaim locally and beyond. Fusing mbira, rhumba, marimba and mbaqanga beats, Tuku’s creative prowess carved him as an innovator who has brought together disparate cultural groups in Zimbabwe into an irresistibly entertaining music genre music affectionately coined ‘Tuku Music’. The Black Spirits front-man continues to belt live shows with the same vigour in and out of the country despite his age and at most points, out-performing youngsters like Jah Prayzer and Tryson Chimbetu.
