GIRL POWER Meet the female MC’s of Zimdancehall D ancehall genre has traditionally always been a man’s world. When we talk about Zimdancehall it is usually associated with big-name male performers such as Winky D, Soul Jah, Tocky Vibes, Kinnah, Sniper and Seh Calaz whose music has easily found its way to radio stations, clubs and subsequently the public. However, their female counterparts have been toiling day and night to make a name for themselves in the maledominated industry. The general consensus is that female chanters have the potential to be big stars in their own rights if they are not sidelined by DJs and promoters. The Parade decided to pay homage to these fiery MCS who have been twice as hard as man to deliver hits after hits with little or no recognition at all. Bounty Lisa Born Lynette Lisa Musenyi, Bounty Lisa is popularly known as the First Lady of conquering family. Ever since engaging to Zimdancehall mega star Soul Jah Love her career has been on the rise. She started her first recordings with Chill Spot Records in 2013.She has churned out hits such as Vari ordinary, Basa Rangu, We Taking over, Wandipengesa (Feat Soul Jah Love),Muvengi, Nhasi Ndozvitaura among other hits. Page 10 Juwela Known in the musical circles as the dancehall diva, Juwela’s roots in the music industry date back to 2007 where she was a recording artiste with an allgirls group at Nitredy Studios. Juwela worked with producer Russo who helped her find her musical feet while working with artists such as Ex Q and Extra Large. Being born and bred in the ghetto township of Chitungwiza also helped The Parade - Zimbabwe’s Most Read Lifestyle Magazine mould her to become the fierce diva that she is today. The 22-year-old diva recently graduated at the Midlands State University with a degree in Media and Society Studies. Some of her tracks are Stop the Tears, Bad Girl, Musandimutse and Ukandida Unobvei? , Love Haimanikidzwe and Zunza mazakwatira. Lady Bee Another female MC hailing from Chitungwiza who has created waves in the dancehall fraternity is none other than the controversial Lady Bee (real name Brenda Bechani). The Chitungwiza based chanter is known for her lewd videos and songs such as Mupunduru Jekiseni, Murume kurungira and Inomira has caused controversy because of their double meaning which many have found to be offensive.
