Columns Love Life Generation S ocial media evolving as a useful tool for youths to share experiences, get new ideas and seek advice. Gone are the days when you had to wait for your favourite weekly or monthly magazine. Today, it is a matter of your smart phone and your facebook account. In an effort to comprehend the modern youth culture, trials and tribulations and provide a platform for sharing experiences for those that are seeking advice and new ideas, we have embraced the social media. Our focus is the popular local facebook page run by a prominent local radio personality. On the extract below we focus on the highly contentious issues of sexual reproductive rights and what youths think of them. Condoms for Women Post Should women carry or keep condoms? Ladies would you? If not, why? And guys, would you be ok with this? Your comments: Tinashe Leerock : As long as contraceptives are being used, women will be treated as objects. And, have you ever wondered why unwanted pregnancies are so many when contraceptives are there? Something is wrong here. I think they are out of God’s plan. Vanessa Chinyanga : Yes, we should carry them, go to hell that whole bull of being a lady. Men tend to use that as an excuse to have unprotected sex with women, so I’d rather be a woman within a condom, than a woman with morals and AIDS Mike Jonasi : Why not? That’s why there’s a female condom Anyway Chikuni : Panobatwa munhu vakomana (There will be chaos, guys). Once ndazvibata anotogara atorongedza twake (Once I discover it, she’ll pack and go) Willard Hokoza : Yes, man its okay, at Page 88 least to me she is smart and safe. l do like it on a lady because it shows appreciation of reality, a lady who knows what she wants and what’s there to like and love in a relationship. Keep it up the ladies who tame men on risk assessments. Keep the step on the pedal as it will take us all up and above. Love you all, nwaáa. Preston Munemo : Once I see them, I won’t be accepting any explanation because its clear evidence that she is a loose gal who can have sex with any man and from that day, she will no longer be trusted by me. I will be left with no choice but to let go and move on. Charity Kamanga Segolela : I always keep condoms to be safe. It’s my responsibility to be safe. Men out there like to take chances and have sex with you without a condom. My man knows that when we do groceries, they are on the list. No condom no sex, that’s my policy. As a woman, it’s not an abomination, but its being responsible. Men who think its wrong need to grow up and check the statistics of people dying of HIV and AIDS every year. Google it, it will open your eyes and make you realise that even though you have both tested negative, it doesn’t mean that you can have unprotected sex. The Parade - Zimbabwe’s Most Read Lifestyle Magazine Honest Elias Duke Koke : Hazviite varume, musikana wangu kana mukadzi wangu ofamba nemacondom hazviite guys, anenge achida kunorara nani umwe out there besides inini BM(batai munhu) (Impossible for my girlfriend or wife to move around with a condom, who will she be intending to sleep with besides me? Hell will break loose George Komichi : A motorist carries car keys, a farmer seeds or a hoe, a carpenter moves with his hammer, a disc jockey his CDs, a pastor the bible. So why not? Its a ‘yes’ from me. Ruvimbo Marufu : Why should we hide behind the veil as if we are saints? It’s better safe than sorry. Personally I’m of the opinion that if you can’t abstain just carry them around, it saves your life enough, think up a name for the kid, you are married!)
