Palm Quest kids’ PFD https:// palm. equipment / gb By Dale Mears @ supwithdale
The Palm Quest is a long-running PFD from Palm Equipment and has been a go-to for many parents for their young ones. Palm updated their previous version with a few tweaked features and a new styling upgrade. If you’ re a parent looking for a PFD for your child, this is and should be a serious contender.
If your child is water confident and you need a personal floatation device for recovery from the water or swimming, not a life jacket( which is essential for non-swimmers), then here’ s why I think the Palm Quest is a great choice.
Available in two colourways: Sherbet / Yellow and Flame / Chilli, offering a choice of yellow-orange or red. Both feature blue webbing straps, zips, and detailing – high-visibility patches on the top of the best by the shoulders.
The PFD is made from Palms PVC-free foam and 420D fabric. It is soft and flexible and does not impede small children returning to their board. Even with a front access zip, it is easy to climb back on board. The zipper is large enough for little hands, even when it’ s cold.
The Quest is easy to put on, whether you’ re a parent or your child. Features include front entry, waist buckle, and two smaller crotch straps. These are essential to prevent the PFD riding up when little ones are swimming, aiding in helping your little ones back onto the board by lifting with their shoulder straps.
Adjustability is easy via the waist strap and both shoulder straps to get the right fit. The waistband also features Palm’ s anti-ride waistband, a rubber texture that grips wetsuits or alternatives.
The kids’ Quest comes in two sizes in this particular model, but the larger size features a single crotch strap. KXS / S is the smallest, suitable for children with a 56cm – 68cm chest and 20kg – 40kg weight, while KM / L is the larger size, designed for children with a 68cm – 80cm chest and 30kg – 50kg weight.
The KXS / S was previously recommended for 6-10 year olds; however, my girls have worn this size since they were three years old, once they were water confident and had outgrown their life jackets. My eldest, about to turn seven, still wears this updated version.
If you are considering an upgrade from the previous model, the key changes are the foam and aesthetics, along with a slight modification to the crotch straps. These now feature a small elastic strap to prevent the straps from hanging too low, unlike the older model. Price: £ 51.00
