I have a lot of outdoor books, but paddling and swimming guidebooks are my favourite. I was delighted to be sent Lisa Drewe’ s guidebook, Paddle Boarding London and South East England: 100 Places to SUP, Canoe and Kayak( Wild Things Publishing). As an avid paddleboarder who has paddled some of the routes in the book, I was eager to read it.
Lisa is the award-winning author of Islandeering and Island Bagging, as well as a trained biologist. You can tell that she has thoroughly researched every single trip. There is also a thoroughly comprehensive section on planning a trip, including what kit to take and wear, staying safe on the water, paddling responsibly, and even paddling with your dog.
The pictures are beautiful and evoke a feeling of the locations. Coupled with the detailed instructions, this guidebook is guaranteed to inspire any paddler to go and explore this beautiful area. Perfect for anyone who loves paddling. Price: £ 18.99
My first thought was how thick the book is. It is full of paddling routes from lots of different counties. Flicking through the book, I was struck by all the fantastic photos, taken mainly by the author, Lisa.
When I started reading the book in-depth, I found it interesting to learn about the many places it included. The book features over 100 paddleboarding routes spanning 13 counties, ranging from the tranquil rivers of the New Forest in Hampshire to the vibrant waterways of London.
Packed with information from distances to starting points, it contains everything you need to take on a route. Lisa has done all the hard work for you, including addresses, postcodes, and What3Words, as well as offshore wind direction. So, all you have to do is turn up with your craft and paddle – having checked the wind, tide, and conditions for yourself, too, of course.
