Helly Hansen Men’ s Durawool T-shirt www. hellyhansen. com By Peter Tranter
I have Helly Hansen T-shirts that are over 15 years old and yet, they still look good and do their job. Their T-shirts may seem expensive at first look, but believe me, their longevity and ability to still look fresh after all those years, they are worthy of serious consideration. I suspect the Durawool T-Shirt will deliver exactly the same durability.
Made from a premium blend of 55 % Merino Wool and 45 % Polyamide, it strikes a balance between warmth, moisture management, and durability, making it ideal for a wide range of outdoor activities, from paddling to hiking and more.
With raglan sleeves and flatlock seams, the feel is impressive: the merino provides softness against the skin, while the polypropylene adds structure and quick-drying performance. It doesn’ t sag with sweat or wear, and maintains its shape after multiple uses. It’ s also lighter and more breathable than traditional wool shirts.
Odour resistance is another strong point. Even after multiple days of wear, the natural properties of merino help prevent the build-up of smell, making it an excellent option for multi-day adventures or travel. Fit-wise, the cut is athletic but not restrictive. Flatlock seams reduce chafing under packs or harnesses, and the slightly longer back hem adds extra coverage. Subtle Helly Hansen branding keeps the look clean and low-profile.
To sum it up, the Durawool T-Shirt is a thoughtfully designed, highperformance base layer. It’ s not the cheapest option out there, but its durability is unmatched, it provides not just comfort, but a sense of ease and freedom of movement, with a sense of security and confidence. As per usual with HH t-shirts – I love it!

Helly Hansen Women’ s Salt Original Sailing Jacket www. hellyhansen. com By Anne Egan
The Helly Hansen Women’ s Salt Original Sailing Jacket is a classic reborn. Inspired by Helly Hansen’ s iconic design, first introduced for the Whitbread Round the World Race in the 1980s, this jacket combines performance and heritage in a sleek, feminine silhouette.
Made with Helly Tech ® Performance fabric, the Salt Original offers excellent waterproof, windproof, and breathable protection. It’ s fully seam-sealed and features a durable water repellent( DWR) treatment that keeps rain beading on the surface even after extended use.
One of the standout features is the distinctive Salt Flag stripe design – bold, retro-inspired and instantly recognisable. Yet, this isn’ t just a fashion piece; it’ s built for serious watersports. The high collar, adjustable cuffs, and hem ensure a snug seal against wind and water, while the quick-dry mesh lining adds comfort and ventilation.
The fit is tailored for women, with a flattering silhouette that doesn’ t sacrifice mobility. The jacket features raglan sleeves for easy movement and AquaGuard ® adjustable cuffs to keep you dry. This year HH have refined the Salt jacket models to include four pockets for extra storage, with the hand pockets lined for additional warmth and a secure internal chest pocket for valuables.
It also features a neon hood and brim, as well as SOLAS reflectors on the arms for enhanced visibility. A storm flap backs the front zip, and the YKK zippers are robust and corrosion-resistant – another nod to serious marine use. In use, the Salt Original Sailing Jacket feels dependable and comfortable. It’ s not overly bulky, so it works well as a standalone shell or layered over a midlayer in cooler conditions. Its durability is noticeable – built to withstand repeated exposure to harsh marine environments while still looking sharp.
In summary, with its blend of heritage styling, technical performance, and thoughtful fit, it’ s an ideal companion for anyone spending serious time on the water – or just wanting to channel a bit of seafaring spirit onshore.
