The Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race may well be the greatest canoe marathon in the world, but what makes it so special?
Is it the fact that it’ s so old – running since 1948 – with such a wonderfully British history? Is it the 125 miles and 77 portages that can be raced over four days or continuously in one push, making it the world’ s longest continuous marathon race? Or is it the international field of the world’ s best ultra-marathon paddlers who strive to win and might even threaten to break the race record with luck and the right conditions?
