As the days grow shorter and there ’ s a nip in the air , what could be more soul-nourishing than a sunrise paddle followed by a freshly brewed cup of tea or cocoa ? Or maybe cook hot soup midway through a longer adventure on your local canal or lake ? Whether we are treating ourselves to a solo adventure to escape the demands of the day or out with friends enjoying the connection , keeping hydrated and fuelled as paddlers is as important in the chillier months as it is in the summer .
I was delighted when Vango invited me to review their Heat Exchanger Cook Kit and Vango Atom Stove ( sold separately ). An attractive bright orange , the kit contains the 1-litre pot , two small bowls , two sporks , a stand for the gas canister , a lid , and a bag to carry everything conveniently . You need to buy the gas canister separately – I use the Primus 230g . The pot is large enough to hold the gas canister , and then I popped the stove in the bag , too .
Vango has been in the world of camping and adventure since 1966 . As an official Duke of Edinburgh kit partner , they know a lot about what works outdoors . The Vango Heat Exchanger Cook Kit and Atom Stove are no exception . They are sturdy and well-constructed , plus I think the distinctive colour is cheerful and you won ’ t overlook anything when packing up .
The efficiency and speed of heating are brilliant , meaning a ) the food or drink is ready incredibly quickly and b ) there is less fuel to carry . Made of aluminium , it is durable and lightweight – 0.387 kg ( without the stove and canister ). It also has an anodised coating , which helps with cleaning . The design of the handles also means they are heat resistant – nobody wants to get burned when making cocoa ! The folding sporks are a useful addition and it is handy that they pack up into the pot .
