well as being an accomplished advocate is what’s important to us. TP: Why did you decide to start your own business? VM: I’d been in partnerships within other organisations, but it just wasn’t right for me. Too much bureaucracy means it becomes easy to lose the personal touch in your work. I love being at the helm, directing our services to ensure they are as personal as possible TP: Do you think sport helps you in life? VM: I always took part in sport, but since having kids, I’m more on the sidelines than on the pitch! I encourage my sons to play as I know how much it has helped me in my career. Captain at his university’s club, my eldest has just led them to a division title. My youngest is currently cutting his teeth for Leigh Ramblers U8’s. Being involved in teams means you meet a wider range of people,
and experience lots of different things. It also helps you build camaraderie and trust with other people, which can help you in business and in life. TP: Have you played at a club or for a team? VM: I played for a couple of local football teams in Dagenham after I left school and played Rugby for North East London polytechnic Rugby team as a prop. TP: What made you decide to become a sponsor using the SponsorPACK system? VM: I’ve always liked being able to offer a personal, and identifiable service, so having the chance to get into a club, and meet the members really suited my method. I was affiliated with Barking Rugby Club many years ago, when they were raising funds to move to a new club house, so I know how important support is to clubs. And I also know it’s a really good way to raise awareness of my company as it builds trust and relationships. I haven’t been sponsoring for long, but I have been made to feel very welcome, and look forward to the future benefits. Vincent McCarthy Solicitors sponsor Rochford Hundred Rugby Club. TP: What makes you different from other Solicitors? VM: I’m told I don’t look or sound like a typical solicitor. I’m from a working class background and spent 15 years in the building trade so it’s not just my approach that has common sense written all over it, I’m informal and practical, that’s why my clients can contact me outside normal working hours – I know their problems don’t work 9-5 so neither do I. TP: Do you think its right for a Solicitor to be informal? VM: Informal doesn’t mean sloppy or unprofessional, we specialise in family and divorce law so people need someone who they can feel comfortable with and trust. Providing caring, practical and sensible advice as
