The OVCRD Report In Four Maps, One Landscape OVCRD recognized four professors emeriti for their exceptional contribution to their respective fields. (L-R) Chancellor Caesar Saloma, Dr. Milagros Ibe, Dr. Jose Abueva, Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera, Dr. Edgardo Gomez, and Vice-Chancellor for Research and Development Benito Pacheco. are Dr. Jose V. Abueva from the National College of Public Administration and Governance, Dr. Edgardo D. Gomez from the College of Science, Dr. Milagros D. Ibe from the College of Education, and Dr. Bienvenido L. Lumbera from the College of Arts and Letters. Dr. Abueva gave an enlightening talk, titled Political Leadership and Ramon Magsaysay: ‘Servant Leader’ with a Vision of Hope, about political leadership and public service as exemplified by one of the country’s former presidents. Dr. Ibe, who is best known for her pioneering works on “demystifying Math” and popularizing otherwise esoteric mathematical concepts, presented a paper about Thrusts and Trends in Educational Assessment as Gleaned from the Testing Efforts of Three Key National Government Institutions. Drawing from his experiences in marine science teaching and research, Dr. Gomez used as backdrop the topic of Streams of Marine Science Research to remind the audience about the crucial role of mentoring in ensuring the growth of any discipline. Finally, Dr. Lumbera, in his talk UP Education and the Humanities, underscored the critical role of the Humanities in nationbuilding and in fostering nationalism. Speaking from four different perspectives and about four different topics (four maps), the professors emeriti provided the audience with gems of insight about the complex socio-political landscape of the country.
