UP Diliman
Technology and Art for a Smarter Philippines:
UP Diliman’s Exhibition for the 2013 National Science
and Technology Week
The Department of Science and Technology
(DOST), through its Technology Application
Promotion Institute (TAPI), annually holds the
National Science and Technology Week (NSTW).
The event traditionally showcases technologybased products and services developed by Filipino
scientists and researchers, many of them supported
by the DOST. The OVCRD, as coordinator of UP
Diliman’s exhibition for the NSTW, has used this
event as another platform for reiterating the
convergence of science and art.
The 12 projects come from the colleges of
Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts, Home
Economics, and Science. They include healthful
and sustainable designs for buildings, interiors,
and packaging; functional art made out of
up-cycled materials; an educational toy for
introducing environmental consciousness
among children; a hybrid car; and various
innovations designed to benefit Philippine
languages, music, paintings, and textiles.
For the 2013 NSTW exhibition in particular, the
OVCRD adopted the theme “Creativity and
Inventiveness on the Road to a Smarter
Philippines.
