I Am My Brothers/Sisters Keeper
To be a keeper…what does it mean? The term “brother’s keeper” goes back to biblical times and is mentioned in the story of Cain and Abel, but what does it mean? A keeper is one who guards or watches; keeps; a person who assume responsibility for another’s behavior; protector.
As brothers and sisters in Greek-lettered organizations, it is our duty to be our brothers/sisters keeper. There is a special bond that is formed when we take the journey together to Greekdom. For those who have never experienced it, it’s hard to understand. We are bound together by duty and honor not only to self, but to other brothers and sisters, and a commitment to serve others.
As a brothers/sisters keeper we are responsible for one another. We cannot let one another fall by the waist side. We do not kick them when they are down and we do not ignore their shortcomings and downfalls. When we see our brothers and sisters falling, it is up to us to pick them up, encourage them, support them, and aid them in getting back on the right track. We must love one another whole-hardheartedly. It is not of us to walk away from our brothers and sisters when they are in need. We carry one another as we carry the torch of brotherhood and sisterhood, unity, and devotion. We stand proud. We stand bold. We stand unite.
I am my sister’s keeper. What about you?
